As software developers, we often pride ourselves on our technical prowess and intelligence, thinking that these attributes are the primary contributor to our success in the field. we sometimes overlook softer skills. in this talk, we’ll discuss one of these softer skills —empathy — not only as a means to improve our lives and the lives of others, but as a means to intuit the drives and motives behind the languages and frameworks we use in our practice.


Ben Vandgrift (Skiplist)
Ben Vandgrift struggles daily with a compulsion to solve problems. His decades-old journey has most recently led him to Clojure, allowing him to solve many software problems elegantly and efficiently. He works as a software engineer when he’s not being mauled by his rescue panther.
